FAQ

Sleeping Bags

1. What temperature rating do I need for a sleeping bag or quilt?

Choose a bag based on your usual night temperatures and activity. For three-season use pick a 32–50°F (0–10°C) bag; for cold/winter choose one rated lower (e.g. 14–32°F / −10–0°C). If you tend to sleep cold (low body fat or light clothing), add ~5–10°C (9–18°F) to the comfort rating as a safety margin.

2. What does RDS-certified mean and why does it matter?

RDS (Responsible Down Standard) verifies that down comes from humanely treated birds and is fully traceable. RDS certification ensures ethical sourcing and gives buyers confidence in product provenance and animal welfare.

3. What is fill power (e.g. 700FP) and why is it important?

Fill power measures down loft and insulating efficiency—higher FP (like 700) means more warmth for less weight and smaller pack volume. For ultralight backpacking, a higher FP gives better warmth-to-weight performance.

4. Is water-resistant (hydrophobic) down waterproof?

Hydrophobic down resists moisture longer than untreated down but is not fully waterproof. It helps reduce loss of loft in damp conditions, but you should still keep your sleeping bag dry with a waterproof shelter, tent footprint, or dry bag.

5. How should I clean and care for my down sleeping bag?

Spot-clean small stains and air out your bag after trips. For full cleaning, use a front-load washing machine with a down-specific detergent and low-heat tumble dry with clean tennis balls to restore loft, or use a professional down cleaning service.

Pads & Mats

How do I choose the right sleeping pad (R-value) for cold weather?

R-value measures thermal resistance. For three-season camping choose pads with R ≈ 2–3; for cold or winter use pick R ≥ 4.0. Combine pad R-value with your sleeping bag rating to ensure overall warmth.

Tents

What should I consider when buying an ultralight tent?

Balance weight vs. protection: ultralight tents save grams but may trade off convenience, interior space, or storm performance. For alpine or 3000m use choose designs with strong structure and reliable materials; always check seam taping and waterproof ratings.

How long does shipping take and are there import taxes for EU customers?

Manufacture time is typically 3–7 business days (some sizes may take longer). International transit to carriers takes ~3–5 days; EU shipments route via our European warehouse—delivery (including customs processing) typically takes about 2–3 weeks. EU customers usually do not pay import taxes; final delivery is handled by local couriers such as DHL or DPD.

What is your return policy?

We accept returns for unused, unopened items in their original packaging across our entire store. Before returning any product, please contact customer service to obtain a return authorization and the correct return address. Some items (for hygiene or safety reasons) may be excluded from returns—customer service will confirm any exceptions when you request a return.

Do you offer warranty and repair services?

Yes—OutdoorUL provides a limited warranty against manufacturing defects. We also offer repair guidance and services (seam resealing, zipper repair, patch kits) and support for inflatable pad punctures. Contact support with your order number to begin a warranty or repair request.
